Course Description

This 5 day comprehensive first receiver operations level training program teaches health care personnel best practices for hospital-based first receivers of victims of chemical, biological, radiological materials, threats and actions.   Training combines interactive classroom activities and lecture with practical exercises, demonstrations, response simulations, hands-on training, and post simulation debriefings.

Participants receive hazard communication/hazard recognition instruction, an introduction to respiratory protection, WMD awareness training, hospital decontamination practices and procedures using PAPRs, and supplied airline respirators.  Hazard vulnerability and hospital incident command are also covered.

Participants learn how to teach others to properly use PAPRs, selection and proper use of personal protective equipment, and how to manage an emergency decontamination response, and patient pre and post decontamination, triage and crowd control.

Participants learn principles for teaching adult learners, and demonstrate skill mastery and perform presentations of selected topics to show their ability to teach skills to others. Participants receive a CD with references and course materials which may be used to customize training to meet their facility’s training needs. Practical skills check off, teach backs, knowledge inventories and presentation critiques help measure learning.  Those successfully completing the hourly and course requirements receive a certificate with CEUs from Keene State College.
