Whether you are a new adventurer or an experienced traveler of the forgotten realms, this week will be one filled with creativity, exploration, and fun. Through character creation, world-building, map-making, and other-worldly exploration, students will collaborate to create adventures and memories. Throughout the week, students will be introduced to the game, participate in collaborative creative workshops, and develop strong team-building skills as their characters work to defeat enemies, escape treacherous puzzle-traps, and save the land the heroes call home. The focus of GoSTEM 2024 will be on Light Garden Design for Sustainable Agriculture. Navigating a path towards sustainable agriculture will broaden our access towards healthy well-being. Students will design, engineer, and build an indoor light garden for growing their own food. There will be an emphasis on sustainability through integration of locally sourced materials and design choices. Students will learn about the importance of light (spectrum, color and absorption), photosynthesis, and plant biology. An end of week Exhibition will showcase the students individually designed light gardens, as well as their field journals containing data and visuals on the physics of light, their light garden design process, plant biology/growth/maintenance, and curated food ideas. Come and learn the basics of landscape painting in a fun and creative setting. Students will learn the traditions of En Plein Air Painting, a French phrase that translates to “out of doors”. In the weeklong class, students will draw and paint both indoors and outdoors and learn to use watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paint in different and unique ways. This course is for all levels, the instructor will meet you where you’re at and help you grow and stretch your skills as an artist. July 22 – 26. Instructor: Melanie Fedorowicz.
